- Research fields: Tissue-specific biology
- Organism: Mouse
- Gender: Unspecified
- Tissue: Skin
- Disease: Non-cancer
- Morphology: Small, oval-fusiform
- Growth properties: Adherent
- Model: Immortalised non-cancerous cell lines
- Crispr: No
- Conditional: No
- Description: The melan-m1, -m2 and -m3 cell lines are immortal melanocyte cell lines derived from the skin of neonatal Dock7m/Dock7m C57BL6/J mice. The misty mutation in melanocytes results in reduced proliferation and increased dendricity and pigmentation. These melanocytes are a useful tool for studies of pigment cell biology. Neural crest-like stem cells (NC-m4 and NC-m6) and melanoblast lines (melb-m5) derived from misty mice are also available from Cancertools.org.
- Application: Melanocyte cell biology
- Biosafety level: BSL1
Applications
- Application: Melanocyte cell biology
Handling
- Growth medium: RPMI + FBS (10%) + TPA (200 nM) + CT (200 pM) + 2-mercaptoethanol (2ME) (100 µM)
- Storage conditions: liquid N2
