  • Name: Melan-m3 cell line
  • Cancer: N/A
  • Research fields: Tissue-specific biology
  • Organism: Mouse
  • Gender: Unspecified
  • Tissue: Skin
  • Disease: Non-cancer
  • Morphology: Small, oval-fusiform
  • Growth properties: Adherent
  • Model: Immortalised non-cancerous cell lines
  • Crispr: No
  • Conditional: No
  • Description: The melan-m1, -m2 and -m3 cell lines are immortal melanocyte cell lines derived from the skin of neonatal Dock7m/Dock7m C57BL6/J mice. The misty mutation in melanocytes results in reduced proliferation and increased dendricity and pigmentation. These melanocytes are a useful tool for studies of pigment cell biology. Neural crest-like stem cells (NC-m4 and NC-m6) and melanoblast lines (melb-m5) derived from misty mice are also available from Cancertools.org.
  • Application: Melanocyte cell biology
  • Biosafety level: BSL1

Applications

  • Application: Melanocyte cell biology

Handling

  • Growth medium: RPMI + FBS (10%) + TPA (200 nM) + CT (200 pM) + 2-mercaptoethanol (2ME) (100 µM)
  • Storage conditions: liquid N2
