  • Name: Melan-sut3 cell line
  • Cancer: N/A
  • Research fields: Tissue-specific biology
  • Organism: Mouse
  • Gender: Unspecified
  • Tissue: Skin
  • Disease: Non-cancer
  • Morphology: Small, oval-fusiform
  • Growth properties: Adherent
  • Model: Immortalised non-cancerous cell lines
  • Crispr: No
  • Conditional: No
  • Description: The melan-sut1, -sut2 and -sut3 cell lines are immortal melanocytes derived from Slc7a11sut/Slc7a11sut Ink4aArf -/- B6/C3H/HeSnJ mice. The Slc7a11 locus encodes a cysteine antiporter and regulates pheomelanogenesis. The sut mouse (Slc7a11 mutant) reduces pheomelanogenesis. In humans SLC7A11 expression may be elevated in melanoma patients. These cells may be useful for the study of pigment cell biology and for the role of Slc7a11 in melanoma.
  • Application: Melanocyte cell biology
  • Biosafety level: BSL1

Applications

  • Application: Melanocyte cell biology

Handling

  • Growth medium: RPMI + FBS (10%) + TPA (200 nM) + CT (200 pM) + 2-mercaptoethanol (2ME) (100 µM)
  • Storage conditions: liquid N2
