- Description: Betanodavirus or nervous necrosis virus (NNV) is a viral genus classified in the family Nodaviridae. Betanodaviruses are small-stranded positive sense RNA viruses, non-enveloped and spherical. The members of the genus Alphanodovirus were originally isolated from insects while those of the genus Betanodovirus were isolated from fish. Diseases associated with this genus include: viral encephalopathy and retinopathy. The disease is more likely to occur in larvae or juveniles but it can also affect adults. Signs include: abnormal behaviors like lethargy, anorexia, spiral swimming; and change in pigmentation. Microscopical lesions and nerve necrosis are mostly located in retina and spinal cord brain, and mortalities of affected populations can be of up to 100%. Studies of rapid and sensitive diagnostics tool or commercial vaccine to identify the risk of presence of the virus in brood fish and to enable stocking of virus free larvae and juveniles would be the ideal means of controlling the disease. This antibody would be useful to develop diagnostic assays to identify the virus in brood fish and to enable stocking of virus free larvae and juveniles.
- Immunogen: Ovalbumin-conjugated synthetic peptide.
- Recommended controls: ELISA: Peptide immunogens
