- Name: Melb-s1 cell line
- Organism: Mouse
- Tissue: Skin
- Morphology: Small, oval-fusiform
- Model: Immortalised non-cancerous cell lines
- Description: The melb-s1, -s2 and s3 lines are immortal melanoblast cell lines derived from the skin of neonatal Ednrbs/Ednrbs C3H mice. These cells express dopachrome tautomerase (also referred to as tyrosinase-related protein 2) but generally do not express tyrosinase. These cells are unpigmented. Melanocytes, irreversibly differentiated from melb-s1 melanoblasts (melan-s1) are also available from CancerTools.org. This melanoblast line is useful for developmental studies and, as melanoblasts display mechanisms similar to tumour cells (migration to and invasion of the epidermis) they may be a useful tool in studies of melanoma development.
