It is an adherent cell line derived from a malignant effusion from the pleural cavity of a patient with a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. This cell line was collected prior to treatment with cisplatin and prednimustine. PEA1 exhibits poor growth in semi-solid medium (agar) and is from the same patient as the PEA2 cell line.
