HT-29 is a widely used human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line, exhibiting sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents such as 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and oxaliplatin. These cells display phenotypic characteristics of mature intestinal cells, including enterocytes, making them a well-established in vitro model for studying food digestion and bioavailability. Additionally, HT-29 cells are used in drug discovery and microbiological research to investigate probiotics and bacteriophage therapies.
