Human Renal Cancer Cell Line. Caki-2 is a human clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) line that displays epithelial morphology and grows in adherent culture. These cells are a useful preclinical model to study renal cancer. They are relatively less sensitive to 5-fluorouracil and sorafenib (multi-kinase inhibitor of VEGFRs 1-3, PDGFR-b, and Raf-1) compared to Caki-1 cells. The Caki-2 cells have a loss-of-function mutation in the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) tumour-suppressor protein and are known to form tumours in immunocompromised mice.
