STRO-1 can be used to positively select for CFU-F, thereby facilitating further studies of stromal elements. STRO-1 ihas recently been shown to recognize an endothelial antigen and is also expressed in many carcinoma cell lines. STRO-I does not bind to hematopoietic progenitor cells.

STRO-1 binds to approximately 10% of BM mononuclear cells, greater than 95% of which are nucleated erythroid precursors, but does not react with committed progenitor cells (colony-forming unit granulocyte-macrophage [CFU-GM], erythroid bursts [BFU-E], and mixed colonies [CFU-Mix]). | Storage conditions: | For immediate use, short term storage at 4°C up to two weeks is recommended. For long term storage, divide the solution into volumes of no less than 20 ul for freezing at -20°C or -80°C. The small volume aliquot should provide sufficient reagent for short term use. Freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. For concentrate or bioreactor products, an equal volume of glycerol, a cryoprotectant, may be added prior to freezing. |
