- Name: UM-UC-1 (Human bladder transitional cell carcinoma) cell line
- Alternate name: UM-UC-1; UMUC1; University of Michigan-Urothelial Carcinoma-1
- Cancer: Genitourinary cancer
- Cancers detailed: Human bladder translational cell carcinoma
- Research fields: Cancer
- Organism: Human
- Tissue: Lymphatic Tissue
- Disease: Cancer
- Growth properties: Adherent
- Model: Tumourigenic cell line
- Description: UM-UC-1 was isolated from a human transitional cell carcinoma (grade II) originating from a bladder cancer metastasis (lymph) of a 26-year old black male. Tumourigenicity studies in nude mice revealed the UM-UC-1 produced tumours, 1-1.5 cm in diameter in < 3 weeks. UM-UC-1 showed strong over expression of nuclear staining for p53 by immunochemical analysis. UM-UC-1 was more resistant to adenoviral gene transduction than several of the other cells evaluated. This cell line has one of the highest levels of coxsackie adenovirus receptor (CAR) expression of the cells tested. UM-UC-1 is among a panel of 12 human urothelial cancer cell lines deposited by the University of Michigan.
