- Name: SCN 1.4 cell line
- Research fields: Neurobiology
- Organism: Rat
- Tissue: Brain
- Disease: Mental Health Disorders
- Model: Immortalised Line
- Conditional: No
- Description: This cell line is derived from rat suprachiasmatic nucleus and are useful in research studying circadian rhythms. This cell line has been characterized by circadian clock properties, distinguishing mammalian SCN in situ. SCN 1.4 displayed extended growth potential without transformed or tumorigenic properties, expresses E1A in all cell nuclei, and heterogenous cell types in various stages of differentiation. SCN 1.4 have glial-like (glial markers were unidentified) and neuronal- like morphologies.
- Production details: Primary cultured cells from rat suprachiasmic nucleus were immortalized with retroviral vector encoding adenovirus 12S E1A gene. Cell lines were derived from surviving, drug-resistant colonies propagated without antibiotics on poly-D-lysine or mouse laminin-coated culture dishes in MEM with 10% FBS, 2ug.mL glucose and 292 ug/mL L-glutamine.
