- Name: Melan-lnk4a-Arf-b3 cell line
- Organism: Mouse
- Tissue: Skin
- Morphology: Small, oval-fusiform
- Model: Immortalised non-cancerous cell lines
- Description: The melan-Ink4a-Arf-b1, -b2 and -b3 cell lines are immortal melanocyte cell lines derived from the skin of neonatal Tyrp1b/Tyrp1b Ink4aArf -/- C57BL/6J mice. These melanocytes do not express the melanogenic enzyme tyrosinase-related protein 1 (Tyrp1), or p16Ink4A and Arf. These melanocytes display brown pigmentation in culture which is reduced compared to cell lines that have functional Tyrp1 but are derived from Ink4aArf -/- C57BL/6J mice (such as melan-Ink4a-Arf-1,-2, -3 and -4 which are also available from CancerTools.org. These melanocytes can be used as a model of Tyrp1-null skin melanocytes in studies focussing on skin cancers and melanomas. They are also a useful tool for studies of pigmentation genetics.
