S100A9 is a cytosolic calcium-binding protein that forms a heterodimer. S100A9 is expressed in peripheral blood monocytes, neutrophils and keratinocytes (mature). Expression is lost on tissue maturation of monocytes to macrophages. S100A9 may be associated with monocyte and neutrophil activation and the accumulation of these cells in inflammatory sites.
